I'm linking up with Ladybug's Teacher Files for her SUMMER SHOPPING LINKY! You know we all like to shop, but we normally buy a lot of things during the summer that are for our classrooms (or at least I do!). Take a look below at my newest purchases! Then, be sure to link up!!! Show me what you've bought lately!
Ok, can I just say, I am LOVIN' the DUCK TAPE I bought today!!!!
Why, might you ask???? Well, for starters, it's ZEBRA PRINT! It goes perfect with my WILD classroom theme :)
I spend about $100 today between my trips to Hobby Lobby and WalMart, but I got A LOT done in my classroom!
AND, I can honestly say, my FAVORITE purchase of the day was this cute duck tape....SERIOUSLY!
Here are a couple of things I did with my DUCK TAPE:
For starters, I turned these plain clipboards into CUTER clipboards to hang outside my room. I'll use them for posting our school calendar and my class schedule.
Two plain clipboards...
MY NEW BEST FRIEND!!!
THe clipboard covered with duck tape!
Then, I toop pieces of two different types of ribbon and tied them around the top clip.
CUTE, right??
Then, I used this old vase below....
And, covered it with the zebra duck tape!
INSTANTLY made it look better! Totally tied it into my classroom theme!
A few other items I bought were a cork board, pink zebra print fabric, and a couple of small wooden zebras. I wanted to re-do my entrance for my classroom. Look below for my before and after pics!
I took the clipboard and painted the edge of it black with acrylic paint. Then, I painted on tacky glue over the cork board.
Then, I put smoothed on the pink zebra fabric over the cork board.
And, lastly, I added the cute little zebras to the corners. :)
This is what my entry looked like BEFORE:
And, this is the AFTER!
The sign in the top LEFT is something I made to go along with my class....
Would you like this sign for your room??? If you look up at the top of my blog page, you'll see a Classroom Signs button! CLick that and you can download them for free!
I'd like to thank my WONDERFUL AIDE, Brenda, for helping me today! LOVE YOU!
More pictures coming TOMORROW as I continue working on my room :)

I would love that sign for my room Marie! I was on the hunt for duct tape today, but couldn't find any to match my theme. Your creations came out awesome!!

Thank you Lisa!! I'll be posting the sign for ya'll this week! :)
DeleteI like what you did today. I have not seen the designer duct tape. Will have to look for it the next time I am out. I am starting a 1st grade classroom in the fall and I am looking for great ideas. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteGlad you found me!! It's always exciting starting in a new room because it's a blank slate! :)
DeleteThe tape can be found at WalMart for sure! That's where I got mine! BUT, I'd also bet they have it at Michael's and Target too!
Marie

A Cupcake for the Teacher
Love it! I have the same zebra duct tape! I used it, this past year, by wrapping it around the tops of my pencils when they started to disappear. I LOVE the clipboards! :)
ReplyDeleteThat's a great idea!! I may do that with some of my pencils too!
DeleteMarie
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE....the duct tape worked wonders! I'd love to have that little sign. Thanks!

DeleteMarie
I am so going to make those clipboards today (with polka dots instead)! did you just wrap the duct tape around the clipboard? Or were there more steps involved? I'm so excited to do this!
ReplyDeleteSara :)
Smiling In Second Grade
Hi Sara! Yep, all I did was wrap the tape. THen, I had to use a couple of extra little pieces to get the top corners. It was VERY EASY! :)
DeleteGood luck and have fun!
Marie
I love your duct tape idea!!!! And Miss R's use of it on pencils! Thanks for sharing. I'm doing a camping theme, so I'm thinking camo!
ReplyDeleteThanks again, your newest (for the moment) follower,

Krazy About Kiddos
lol....that's what has happened to me! Now everytime I look at something, I'm thinking "How could I duck tape that?!?" lol
DeleteThat is ADORABLE!!! I had a jungle theme in my classroom for the first few years! Then I had a baby, and his room was jungle, too! I love all of those ideas! Makes me want to switch to jungle again! We're monsters right now. I'm also in love with all of the cool duct tape. Funny story: this last year I told one of my social butterflies "do I need to duct tape you to that chair, silly girl?" she said "ohh! Do you have the hello kitty one?" Sigh. Needless to say that did NOT work.

The {mis}adventures of first grade
lol DUCK tape. Fingers got carried away.
DeleteLOL!!! Love that she knew about the Hello Kitty duck tape! I just saw that kind yesterday! :)
DeleteI'm having a BLAST with this new theme. I used to be "STARS", but it was really generic and not nearly as fun as this WILD ANIMAL plan!
Marie
This is absolutely adorable! Wow. When I come into work tomorrow, I am definitely snooping in your classroom! hehe I have been changing it up a bit in my room as well...doing a white/black/red (kinda polka dot--what I can find) theme!!!I might just have to grab some of that zebra duct tape! Or maybe go red/black if they have it! Don't think I saw this above, but did you get the duct tape at Walmart or Hobby Lobby? My most recent exciting purchases for my classroom include one red and one black vinyl bean bag ($19.99 at Walmart.com)and vinyl Dr. Seuss sayings and red/black polka dots for the wall! Money well spent!
ReplyDelete-Ann S.
:) Thanks Ann!!! I am having SO much fun re-doing my room theme! I saw your room and it is SOOOOO stinkin' cute! Love the red and black! Where did you get your vinyl online?
DeleteI got the duck tape from Target, but they also have it at WalMart. They may even have black with stripes or red polka dots... LOVE THE STUFF!!! I used it to cover a paint can too so that I have a cute pencil/pen holder on the table outside my room. Maybe I'll see you tomorrow!
Marie
Adorable!
ReplyDeleteLooks fantastic! Great thinking!

DeleteI would love to have that sign!!! How might I go about getting it?
ReplyDeleteThere is a tab at the top of my blog "Free Classroom Signs". You can click that, then scroll to the sign you want. Click it, and download for free! :)
DeleteLove, love, love your classroom sign! Putting it on my summer "to do list".
ReplyDeleteI love everything about this, of course. I also love the font you used for your sign. Could you share what font that is? I have some signs I want to make for my classroom, and like to coordinate. This may be my font of choice this year.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cara!!! The font is actually one that I found in Microsoft WORD....it's called "teen" :)
DeleteIt's one of my faves, just because of the way they make the "a" look! LOL
Marie
Love all the duct tape stuff! I am a new 5th grade teacher and am using it to color code my students notebooks since I teach science and social studies. I am also using it to make a quick easy border around my door and whiteboard.
ReplyDeleteWould love the sign for my classroom.
ReplyDeleteI just made some clipboards for my classroom for students to use during tier time :)
If you look at the top of my blog you'll see a button that you can click to get the signs! :) Enjoy!
DeleteWhen you wrapped it around did it overlap on the front or back or all over? Did you just do one continuous strip or cut?
ReplyDeleteI cut strips and just put them on top, and wrapped the edges around the back. I have them hanging on my wall, so you don't ever see the backs. :)
DeleteThe sign is fabulous! Wold love to hang it up in my classroom! Have you posted it yet?
ReplyDeleteIf you look at the top of my blog there is a button that you can click on to get the class signs! :)
DeleteThat sign is super cute! Yesssss! I would love to have that darling sign for my classroom, too! Thanks so much in advance!
